Mass Manufacturable Yo-yo - Fall '21

Part of MIT Class 2.008, Design and Manufacturing II, as a small team of six we designed a yo-yo that could be mass manufactured primarily using injection molding and thermoforming techniques. In this class I really learned how to machine and design for a machine’s capabilities. It was very fulfilling to finally get a two part mold to work and eject parts.

I greatly contributed to this project with CAD. What set our team unique from the rest is having artistic designs that aren’t easily modeled using traditional sketching tools. With enough effort and learning, I’ve managed to add 2D drawn art as the height of surface details. For the exposition of our yo-yo, I created a silent video to help explain the process.

Our team was called “SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE” where you add as many “A”s as you feel like it or you run out of space.
